How we will work with you: a process for success
Communication and team work is essential when designing a web site for a small business or any business. A tested and proven process is essential for a successful project. In most cases, Timothy Web Design uses the following process for developing web projects.
Phase One: Planning
Planning is the most critical part of a successful web design project. If you don’t know where you want to be, you will never get there. The planning phase discussion will cover several areas of importance.
- Scope and purpose: What do you want the site to do? What information will be available? Do you anticipate your site growing in the future?
- Domain names and hosting: Do you have domain names registered and a hosting account for those domains? Do you have the access information for your domains and hosting accounts? Does the hosting account support the needed technologies to implement the plan for your site?
- Email: Does your current site host your email?
- Content gathering: This is the time to gather all of the content you initially want on the site (in at least rough draft form). This includes text, graphics, photos, forms, and documents. In doing this we will have a better idea of what information will be on the site and prepare for the next area, navigation planning.
- User Interaction: Will there be elements of the site that your users will interact with such as forms, search, and ecommerce. If so, how will they function?
- Navigation Planning: Once you have gathered the initial content for the site and have determined where the site might expand in the future, we can begin planning how visitors will navigate through the site and discover your content. Planning how your visitors will find the content on your site will ensure that visitors can quickly and simply find the information they need.
- Marketing plans: Do you plan to market your site through search engines (Goggle, etc), email campaigns or other methods?
- Content Management: How do you plan on keeping the information on your site up to date?
Phase Two: Design
Once we understand what content you will initially have on your site and how visitors will navigate to that content, we can begin the process of visually designing the site. During this phase we will determine how your site will look and how elements will be positioned (like menus, images, etc).
Phase Three: Development
In this phase we will begin to create your actual site from this information we have from phase one and the design and layout from phase two. During this phase we will also begin building any interactive elements for your site such as contact forms, eCommerce stores or search functions.
Phase Four: Testing
Once you site is in the process of development we will begin to test your site to make sure it functions as it should. This will involve your company looking and testing the site as well as testers from Timothy Web Design auditing your site to ensure things work correctly an d suggest any improvements based on testing.
Phase Five: Content Placement
When your site has been tested and is ready for use, we will remove the “placeholder” content from your site and begin added your real content.
Phase Six: Deployment
In this phase we will transfer your site from our testing server to your live server.
Phase Seven: Content Management, Marketing and Site Maintenance
Once your site is live we will continue to assist you in marketing your site and keeping the content on your site up to date. In addition you will need to make sure your site is maintained and backed up on a regular basis.
